Frequently Asked Questions

We translate, interpret, layout, dub or transcribe in over 120+ world languages If you can name it, we almost certainly can do it or have already done so for many years. We also ensure that your project goes into the dialect or terminology of your target market, such as French for Canada or Portuguese for Brazil.

Absolutely. Please see Website Localization.

Since 1990. Long enough to anticipate what problems or issues a project might entail and to prepare accordingly.

Most documents of 3000 words and under (around 12 typed pages) can be translated within 24–48 hours. Longer documents take a bit more time, as do special care translations such as ad copy which require more creative input between translators and clients to properly acculturate the text. Layout and print-ready output as well as website and localization projects of course also require extra time.

Most of our translators are certified by the American Translators Association or equivalent bodies in other countries and have the highest professional qualifications. Certification, however, does not guarantee quality, speed or knowledge of your industry terminology. Only experience does. Some certified translators do not meet our own standards, whereas some with deliberately lapsed certifications but years of experience certainly do. Most of our translators have worked with us for many years and are very familiar with the quality and speed we demand. For legal cases or depositions, we will always provide court- or Federally-certified linguists. We also provide certified interpreters at large conferences to maintain the highest professional standards. And we certify translations whenever required.

Not everyone who is multilingual can be a translator and not every translator can translate every document. At Auerbach International, your project will only be translated and edited by professional translators skilled in the subject. For example, if you need to translate instructions for a vinyl polysiloxane bite registration material into Greek, Danish and Dutch, we will only use translators familiar with Dentistry.

Likewise, if you need a technical document on wine fermentation translated into Simplified Chinese, we will only use highly qualified translators who also speak “Winemaking”. We have very high standards for our translators, editors and proofreaders, and we take great pride that we can translate any document into any language with the shortest turnaround time in the industry.

All our translators, editors and proofreaders sign confidentiality agreements with us for every assignment. At your request, we will be happy to provide you with a confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement stating that Auerbach International – including its employees, translators, agents, and contractors – – will do everything in their power to maintain the confidentiality of your document at all times.

Cantonese and Mandarin are only SPOKEN dialects of Chinese. They do not correspond directly to written systems used in different countries or areas. For example, Cantonese is spoken mostly in Southern China, Hong Kong, and by many North American Chinese, whereas Mandarin is spoken in Northern China (Beijing), Taiwan and Singapore. The two writing systems are Traditional characters and Simplified characters.

Documents should be translated into Traditional characters if they are targeted at Hong Kong, Taiwan or domestic US markets, and Simplified characters for Mainland China and Singapore. Chinese people will look at a character and pronounce it differently based on their spoken dialect. But the spoken character is written in either Traditional or Simplified style based on what country your project is targeting.

Computer translation programs do help professional translators. They can also be helpful where “lay” people just want to get the gist of a document. But a professional translation still needs to be reviewed by a speaker of that language. For example, a software-generated translation which we had to correct had rendered “a board meeting” into Chinese as “a collection of planks of wood.” An accurate rendering but not quite conveying the correct meaning. At Auerbach International, we use only skilled, native speakers in the translation and editing process to ensure top quality translation. Computers simply cannot get the nuances that a human native speaker can. Please also see How we leverage technology and AI vs. Human translations.

We like to receive your entire file so we can evaluate it for discounts for repeated text and other issues.

Translation rates are based upon word count of the source text, formatting, technical difficulty and a required delivery timeframe (standard or expedited, as our quotes specify). Interpreting, website engineering, layout, and proofing are charged by the hour.

A small project management fee is also added to each job. All quotes are free, and most projects can be quoted within 24-48 hours.

We routinely deliver by email in the same formats as your submitted files. We can also deliver to a secure server.

Yes. We have a network of literally hundreds of qualified, experienced, native interpreters, both court-certified and non-court certified. When you need an interpreter, we request that you provide the date, time and place the interpreter is needed; which language and dialect skills are needed (such as Mexican Spanish); and the subject to be covered. Please allow maximum lead time when scheduling interpreters; talented interpreters’ schedules often book up days or weeks in advance!

Consider: Businesses in Texas come to us for translations into Mexican Spanish and firms in New York come to us for languages they could easily find in their backyard. These clients keep returning because they have experienced the superior quality and award-winning, personalized service which Auerbach International provides.
