Welcome to September! The days are becoming cooler with Fall right around the corner. Kids are all back in school and daylight hours are becoming noticeably shorter. Labor Day has come and gone and that signals the end of Summer vacations and a return to regular work weeks. Labor Day isn’t the only important observance we make in September. We can’t deny the importance of… Be Late for Something DayNational Butterscotch Pudding DayAsk a Stupid Question DayNational One-Hit Wonder Day. One could claim that any of these days match the importance of Labor Day, including “National Translation Day” (certainly near and dear to the hearts of all of us at Auerbach International). You might ask yourself, “Why would there be a day focused on the translation profession?” As always, consider the following and see if using a professional translation firm like Auerbach International may have provided different outcomes to these Friday Funnies! Not bad, I’m sure a good 20% of readers could make a guess at what they are requesting. I’m not sure that there is such a thing but to each their own. So are those Flamingo Llamas or Llama Flamingos? The translation from Korean is “Addictive Luxury” “Drug Hot Dog” “Long sausage wrapped in pastry. Sprinkled with special sugar.” So is the “special sugar” the “drug”? Is there a big demand for “NARCOTIC HOTDOGs” in Korea? Maybe in North Korea? Sure, these signs render a hearty chuckle from us but if your non-English communications are being translated by anyone other than a professional linguist you could find your Llama widgets being described as Flamingo gadgets to your global customers. That’s not something to laugh about. Make certain that you use a translation firm with professional linguists with a Master’s degree or the equivalent, who have at least 10 years experience in the industry, who are assigned to projects based on their native language, and who have knowledge of the industry within which your communications are targeted. Sex Translations (and Olympics Bloopers)

Slippery Children Sauce, Donkeys and Circumcisions – it’s Friday Funnies
July marks the middle of summer, when lawns grow so fast that mowing is a nonstop activity, when children ride their bikes to the park and community pool, when family vacations test parents’ patience. The days are long and the breezes warm – well, downright scorching this summer! July is the month when those of us in the United States recognize our national day of independence. But that’s just one of many days we celebrate. For instance, here are special dates we observe every July: Disobedience Day Sidewalk Egg Frying Day Piña Colada Day Stick Out Your Tongue Day These dates are just a few of the wonderful observances we undertake in July. “Ratcatcher’s Day” is on everybody’s list but what may not be on that list is remembering to utilize a professional translation services firm for your multilingual business requirements.
